Both statements are true, but there’s so much more to it than many ever imagine. For those of us who have tasted hot from the oven homemade biscuits, the others can’t compete. Goodness gracious sakes a live, it’s divine. Of course ever good cook has their recipe.

this is the same bannock recipe I was taught, by a very special person in Dingwall,NS . It always tastes better baked in a cast iron fry pan. Thanks Alec!

Bannock Bread      Ingredients:   3 cups all-purpose flour   1 T baking powder   1 1/2 t salt   1 1/2 cups water   1 cup blueberries    Directions:   Mix dry ingredients , add water quickly & continue to stir. Add blueberries and mix into batter. Spread batter on pie plate & put in a preheated oven, heated to 425 F. Bake for 20 minutes.

Bannock:   ◾2 Cups Flour  ◾2 tsp baking powder  ◾Pinch of salt  ◾Water  ◾Shortening    Instructions:  1.In a cast iron pan on med-high, heat 1 lb of shortening.  2.Stir together 2 cups flour, 2 tsp baking powder, and pinch of salt  3.Add water, stirring until a very soft sticky batter forms (it will be lumpy – do not over stir)  4.Drop by tablespoonful into the hot shortening  5.Flip once when bottom side is golden brown
