Traditional bridal/festive ‘gerdanlık’ (choker necklace). From the Pomak villages in the Biga district (Çanakkale province).  Mid-20th century.  Bead-work with small beads (glass and plastics).  (Inv.nr. bon026  - Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).

‘Gerdanlık’ (necklace, to be worn close to the neck).  Part of the traditional festive woman’s costume from Nebiköy (15 km NE of Tokat city).  Beadwork, mid-20th century, bought from the village in 1989.  (Kavak Folklor Ekibi & Costume Collection-Antwerpen/Belgium).

‘Gerdanlık’ (necklace, to be worn close to the neck). Part of the traditional festive woman’s costume from Nebiköy (15 km NE of Tokat city). Beadwork, mid-20th century, bought from the village in 1989. (Kavak Folklor Ekibi & Costume Collection-Antwerpen/Belgium).

Bridal necklace from Türkmen villages in the Dinar district (Afyon province), e.g. in the valley of Çölovası. Beadwork of small glass pearls, first quarter of 20th century. With an Ottoman inscription in Arabic script, and edged with a row of ‘karanfil’ (clove). The clove is used because of its pleasant smell, which is symbolically transferred to the bride. (Inv.nr. bon019 - Kavak Costume Collection-Antwerpen/Belgium).
