In 1585, the Ottoman sultan Murad III was gifted a magnificent throne made of gold-plated walnut wood and studded with 957 peridots by his new son-in-law.  Today, this glorious throne, known as The Gold Festival Throne, or Bayram Tahti, can be seen in the treasure house in the Topkapi Palace Museum in Istanbul, Turkey.
