Bottle | Iznik, Turkey, ca. 1585 | Fritware, polychrome underglaze painted, glazed | Whitish-grey fritware, painted in colours and covered with a clear glaze | Bulbous body, long tubular neck expanding slightly at the mouth, with blue knop near the lower end. Body and upper part of neck are decorated with goats, hounds, hares and other animals. Below the neck is divided into long narrow shaped panels. AN IZNIK POTTERY DISH  Ottoman Turkey, circa 1630  With sloping rim in short foot, the white interior painted in bole-red, pale blue and turquoise green with a central human figure seated on a stylised rug holding a wine bottle in one hand and a glass in the other, a drum visible in the background, flanked by floral sprays, in a stylised wave and scroll border, the exterior with simple alternating flowerheads, rim chips, otherwise intact  11in. (28cm.) diam.
