Ottoman (Anatolian or Balkan) yatagan / yataghan, A.H. 1238/A.D. 1822, steel, silver, gold, coral, Length, 29 1/4 in. (74.3 cm) Length of blade, 22 1/8 in. (56.2 cm), Met Museum, Bequest of George C. Stone, 1935. Inscribed with the date 1238 (A.D. 1822), the name of the maker ("Made by Abdullah"), six Turkish verses of good will towards the owner, and the names of two owners (Ismael Gazi and Abdul Kadar).

Curved, single-edged blade with remains of blueing, decorated with floral & geometrical motifs on the entire length; cylindrical, silver grip with ring-nut, entirely decorated with filigree frames and circles, & several round and drop-shaped coral cabochons; pommel with large ears, decorated with cabochon corals.    dating: early 19th Century;  dimensions: 69 cm.;  Provenance: Turkey

Ottoman yatagan, 19th century, typical, slightly curved, single-edged blade with double rear groove, blued at the first part, with a round, gold cartouche with Arabic inscription, and decorations with inscriptions in gold. It has a gilt copper hilt, decorated with filigree and large cabochon corals and glasses. The walrus ivory grip scales features the typical large ‘ears’, while the wooden scabbard is covered in leather and has simple iron mounts. overall length 75 cm.
