The Rwenzori Trading Company Range

We have been working to support education in 12 remote mountain communities in Western Uganda since 2008. Since that time, the percentage of children going to school has risen from 53% to 91%. This has been achieved through our sustainable trade initiative with profits generated from baskets, drums, and cow horn products created in the Rwenzori region feeding right back into their community. All of The Rwenzori Trading Company’s woven products use natural #dyes to #colour the raffia that makes the products. The#orange dye comes from the binzali, #turmeric potato. To make the dye, take 0.5kg of binzali and pound them until they’re soft. Mix the potatoes with your #weavingmaterial and 3 litres of cold water. Boil the mixture for 15-30 minutes. As a result we’ve helped 7,500 #children and 91% of them now attend primary school in the 12 school communities.
