DURRUSHEHVAR SULTAN is the daughter of the last Ottoman Caliph Abdulmecid II. She was born in 26 January 1914 and grew up in Dolmabahçe Palace. Further to the cancellation of the Caliphate in 1924, she was sent to Bulgaria and Switzerland by Orient-Express. She became ‘The Princess of Berar’ by getting married to Prince Azam Shah, the son of Haydarabad Ruler in November 1931 in India. She died in London when she was 92. She was one of the most beautiful princesses of the Ottoman Palace.
Suleiman allowed Hurrem Sultan to remain with him at court for the rest of her life, breaking another tradition - that when imperial heirs came of age, they would be sent along with the imperial concubine who bore them to govern remote provinces of the Empire, never to return unless their progeny succeeded to the throne.
