Atheris é um gênero de víboras venenosas conhecidas como arbusto víboras. Eles são encontrados apenas em Subsaharan tropical África (excluindo a África do sul) e muitas espécies têm isolado e distribuições fragmentadas devido ao seu confinamento à chuva florestas. Em um exemplo interessante de evolução convergente, eles mostram muitas semelhanças com as jararacas arbóreas da Ásia e da América do Sul. Dez espécies são reconhecidas atualmente.
