Make a Radio Telescope With Raspberry Pi

Make a Radio Telescope With Raspberry Pi: It is really easy to get an optical telescope. You can just buy one from a manufacturer of such telescopes. However, the same cannot really be said of radio telescopes. Usually, you have to make them yourself. In this Instructable, I will show how t…

That Wild Chinese Telescope Is Already Discovering Its First Pulsars

By now, you may have seen the incredible pictures of the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope or FAST, an enormous telescope in the Guizhou province of China that just turned on last year. You’ve also probably heard that, yes, many hope it will find signs of alien life. It’s already beginning to make…Read more... via…

Low Cost Hydrogen Line Telescope using the RTL-SDR

Amateur radio astronomer Y1PWE has uploaded a pdf document describing how he created a low cost hydrogen line telescope using an RTL-SDR dongle (links under heading 2. H-Line Receiver) . Hydrogen atoms randomly emit photons at a wavelength of 21cm (1420.4058 MHz). Normally a single hydrogen atom will rarely emit a photon, but since space and the galaxy is filled with many hydrogen atoms the average effect is an observable RF power spike at 1420.4058 MHz. By pointing a radio telescope at the…

Build Your Own FM Radio Astronomy Lab

Build Your Own FM Radio Astronomy Lab: Because I'm a simple man, and the thought of trying to understand all of the unknown is more than I can handle, I prefer the simpler side of astronomy. My personal astronomy tools include a 4.5" reflector telescope, a pair of binoculars, and a FM R…
