From a series of portraits painted in 1888 by Rudolf Swoboda. Despite having been made Empress of India in 1876 Queen Victoria never visited the country; she was fascinated by its culture and inhabitants. In 1886 she commissioned Swoboda to travel to India and create a series of portraits to show the diversity of the population.
