The gallery in Villa Borghese, Rome
The Bernini masterpiece "Apollo and Daphne" (1625), located in Rome's Galleria Borghese. One of our favorites!
Apollo and Daphne by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The Museo Borghese, Roma, Italy.
one of the iconic pieces of the Borghese Gallery, my favorite place to take people in Rome. This is a scene from Ovid's Metamorphosis that Bernini brings to life in marble- the nymph's toes are becoming roots and her fingers the leaves of the laurel tree, just as swift-footed Apollo reaches out to snatch her away. a must-see. Apollo and Daphne. Gian Lorenzo Bernini,1624.
Cupid and Psyche. Cupid is also called Eros. Psyche was born a mortal, but her beauty was too dangerous and she was the envy of Venus who tried to destroy her. The gods eventually take pity on her plights and grant her immortality. She marries Cupid and they have a daughter, called Voluptas (Hedone in Greek mythology)
